GeoClicks runs a small group of Hong Kong community and information sites. This policy explains what information we collect when you use them, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to geoclicks.com, the GeoClicks forum archive at archive.geoclicks.com, and GeoExpat at geoexpat.com, and to any other GeoClicks site that links to this page.

Information we collect

• Information you give us. When you register, post in a forum, place a classified ad or contact us, we collect what you provide, such as your username, email address and the content you post. You can read most of our sites without registering.
• Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our servers record technical details of each visit: your IP address, browser type, the pages you request, the referring page and the time of the request. We use these logs to run, secure and protect the sites, for example to block abusive traffic.
• Cookies and similar technologies. See the next sections.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. We use them to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, measure how the sites are used, and serve and measure advertising. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you do, some features, such as staying signed in, may not work.

Advertising

Our sites are supported by advertising served through Google Ad Manager and Google AdSense.

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to our sites and to other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to our sites and/or other sites on the Internet.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings (My Ad Center). You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.
• If you opt out, you will still see ads. They will simply not be personalised.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how our sites are used, such as which pages are popular and how visitors find us. Google Analytics uses cookies and reports aggregated information to us. You can prevent your data from being used by Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

How we use information

• To provide and run the sites, including your account and the content you post.
• To keep the sites secure and prevent spam, fraud and abuse.
• To understand how the sites are used so we can improve them.
• To show advertising that pays for the sites.
• To reply when you contact us, and to send service emails about your account.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers that help us run the sites (such as hosting, security, analytics and advertising providers, as described above), or when the law requires it, or when it is needed to protect our rights, our users or the public. Anything you post in a public forum or classified ad can be read by anyone, including search engines.

Keeping information

We keep account information for as long as your account exists, and server logs only for as long as we need them to run and protect the sites. Forum posts form part of a public discussion and archive, and may remain after an account is closed.

Security

Our sites are served over HTTPS and we take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

You can update your profile from your account settings. Under Hong Kong's Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, and the laws of some other places, you may ask to access or correct the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to delete your account. Contact us using the link below.

Children

Our sites are intended for adults and are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the date at the top.
